A160 Poor Fuel Economy

I bought an A160 Petrol Auto Elegance 2010 3 months ago, a used vehicle with 13000 miles on the clock. I moved down to a smaller vehicle and hoped to get much better fuel economy. Unfortunately I have been extremely disappointed with the MPG. Measuring tank to tank I am getting 33MPG for a mix of short runs and motorway trips. This is barely better than my old Honda Accord 2 litre automatic. Is this normal in other members experience? Should I be contacting the dealer (Mercedes Benz Used Vehicles) to complain or is this the best I can expect?

Greedy

The official overall figures for a new A160 (combined) is 47.1 so I would say there's something slightly amiss. :?

By the way, thats the figures for the manual. The CVT only does 42 but still a lot better than yours. :(

Sorry didn't notice that you said yours was auto. Read it too quickly. Cheers Maz.

The A Class petrols are not renowned for economy and seem to have been overtaken in this respect by many others. My new one (manual) has done less than 1,000 miles so not fair to compare. My previous A150 Classic SE (also manual) never achieved more than the high 30s,though admittedly this was almost all short-trip driving. With a more mixed driving pattern I would have thought even an auto should be achieving around 40. Some have also found that the A is tyre-pressure sensitive, so if the tyres are a bit low on pressure this could have an influence.

Thanks Maz & Rhud, confirmed my thoughts really. Regarding the mention of tyres, the car has different makes of tyre on the front and rear wheels. I wonder if this could have any impact on fuel consumption?

Not ideal - but wouldn't have thought it would affect consumption. More to do with pressures. My BlueEfficiency A recommends 32psi front/38 rear as part of the attempt to produce optimum mpg.
