Hi all,

I have been reading around the forums about retrofitting the dab unit. I have the Comand Online unit with Audio 20, and found oem DAB units on the well known auction site. I would like to keep it original but don't want to spend £1000+ on it, especially when the part can be sourced so cheap.

I have a few questions about the installation:

1. Does the unit mount in the passenger floor well or in the boot?
2. Most units come without the loom connector. Can you get a replacement plug?
3. Does the dab antenna fit the fit or rear screen on the convertible?

I noticed that mine has an antenna wire in the front screen, and also a shark fin in the boot lid. What are these for?

Thanks

If anyone has done this can they post step by step.

Having read a few other posts about owners with MB DAB my other question is does it work? So many seem to experience poor reception I'm wondering if it's a pointless exercise...

There are plenty of A1669003407 units for sale, but I'm also thinking seriously about the Dension DAB+U

Adding the antenna is the hardest and most important part.

The best place on any car is the rear of the roof. reception is lousy from Southampton to the West along the A31/35 and does require a good antenna, the ionosphere can also affect it being on the coast, I have had nothing at all much in the morning and fine in the afternoon. The Denison is the better way to go owing to the horrible way the Mercedes DAB works.

My company Lexus generally gets good reception around Dorset, but does drop out at the A31/A350 junction, and again at Blandford Forum A350. Otherwise generally good.

So any ideas on my antennae? The shark fin and the windscreen ones?

Your shark fin could contain the antenna for the sat nav and phone. not easy adding to the rear window and a lot of work getting the wire to the DAB. The signals for DAB are vertically apposed, if the front screen is not metalized the front screen is an option.
