Hi All!

I’m about to change my SLK250 and I’m torn between a 19 plate A35 or a 19 plate C300 (petrol) W205 saloon. I’ve test driven both, the A35 is obviously quicker but the c class has premium plus and all the bells & whistles you could ask for! Hardly any info on the c300 petrol when researching. Any advice much appreciated!! Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome,

I’d go for the C300, nicer ride

As above, I'd go for the C class.
It's just a better car albeit slower than the A35.

Yes the C all the way a nicer built car, but your call to be honest if you want the fizz of the A, cant imagine the C being far behind.
My C is absolutely silent.

The A class will be very quick, but in reality, 95% of the time you can only go as fast as the car in front of you, so I'd go for the C Class and enjoy comfortable journeys all the time. The C300 is still plenty nippy enough for most driving conditions.

I write as a happy C300 owner, and I'm very satisfied with mine, it has a feeling of solidity that you wouldn't get in an A35. I've had faster cars in the past, but my 300 has never felt lacking to me, but do stick to petrol. I've had diesels in the past, and while they're often as quick as the petrol equivalent, they just feel leisurely in a back to back comparison. My last car but one was a diesel E250, very good, but rather dull to drive, though quick enough, but I only kept it a year, so it was a very expensive choice. My C300 is a 2020 and I've had it for two years. I bought one of the last ones available, before MB went all touch screen and digital.

Hi and welcome to the forum. My Son in law has a C300 and he loves it. It does all he wants it to do and you wouldn’t get him out of it with a crowbar :)

I believe the C300 petrol is quite a rare car with more people buying the diesel.
Performance wise the C300 is 1.2 seconds behind the the A35 to 62mph and they are both limited to 155mph. In everyday driving you would only ever notice this deficit when wringing the neck out of it.
You didn't mention price and in December 2019 both in Premium Plus spec the C300 was only £300 more, but as you said the C300 is better equipped this suggests the A35 is a lower spec so should be cheaper to buy right now...possibly 2-4k cheaper.
It really depends on what you want from the car because the 2 are quite different.
Had the C300 been a coupe I would have absolutely chosen that...but not being a fan of hatchbacks now I wouild still lean towards the C300 saloon.

I have just noticed you are a new registration with your first post, which probably means you will never be seen or heard from again. :p

I think that's right, my dealer offered a wide choice of diesel 300s but not many petrol ones, these do seem to be rather scarce. I was fussy about spec so turned everything down, but they persevered and using the MB system, discovered one just arrived on the dockside in Bremerhaven, premium rather than P+, but otherwise almost exactly what I wanted. My earlier E250 was a P+. I liked the window in the roof effect of the panoramic roof, but I think I only opened it two or three times, to not too cost effective, and I think I got a pretty good deal.

Hi All, thanks so much for your responses! Think I’m going to take the plunge and go for the C300. I am going back to the dealer on Friday - will keep you posted!
