W163 ML 320 1998
Hi Guys, I am having issues with my central locking (W163 1998), it worked intermittently and has in the past 2 day given up completely. I am able to use the centre console button to lock and unlock the car and I can open the car with the key.

I have put new batteries in the fob and having tried all the suggestions I could find on this forum I have come to the conclusion that it is the aam.

So the questions are:
1. Has anyone successfully replaced the AAM in a 98 ML with a used part?
2. If not, what is the best price you have found for a new unit?

Thanks jibcl500 Had it on STAR at HertsMerx and an aam fault was flagged I believe. what I really need to know is if I can use a second hand module as that would save me a bundle.

Ive changed the EAM which I bought used off ebay, so the same might work with the AAM but there might be some coding through star required.

The AAM plugs into the bottom of the front fuse box in the engine compartment. Make sure if you buy a used AMM the part number is identical.

I think the part number is 1635454732 but check it with your part number.

Is there a way to check the part number without taking off the fusebox? I don't have the correct torx driver and the aam is apparently under the main fuse box in the engine bay.

The problem here is there are a few, you should be able to work it out from the last 6 numbers of your VIN

If you pop up your VIN number maybe I can check for sure.

Many ML's came with the similar spec, I do not see why not

Agree ML is well speced to start with the only option would be sunroof and xenons later in the range.

If you remove the screws holding the front fuse box you can lift it up possibly enough to see the part number on the AAM, should take 5 mins.

Without pandering or massaging ego's I must say this forum in invaluable and the wealth of knowledge is astounding. one of my fears has always been taking something apart and not being able to replace it or worse still damaging it.

Anyway encouraged by Jibcl500 and Television I removed the fuse box and lifted it up high enough to see the part number.:D
