I have just got my car (SL500 r230 2003) back from a Independent garage that has replaced the transmission control. On my second day of driving it i got the dreaded ABC red drive carefully message. I have just checked the ABC fluid (See picture 1) and it appears to be below the top two notches in the middle. Am i right in thinking it should be between the top two notches when the car is parked and not started?

Also while investigating the fluid level i noticed that there appeared to be a greenish fluid welled up on a component just below the ABC fluid tank. See picture two . I dipped my finger into the fluid its a couple of millimeters thick. My question is what is the component with the fluid on it? Should there be any fluid on that component. Is it the source of my ABC fluid leak? Could this have been damaged when they fixed my transmission control or is it just another fault that coincidently started around the same time.

That fluid level is OK at this point in time, the fluid below is just resting in an air con component.

Is the car sitting level all round, does it just say "drive carefully" or "car too low". I take it the raise and lower buttons are not working and normal if they are not, but worth a try.

Just as we get one members ABC fixed someone new pops up ;)

Please keep us posted, seems like we have had a rash of these issues lately.

Fluid under the tank means it has overflown from the dipstick cap. Is the header tank all shiny? Clean it all up as best you can.

As Malcolm does it raise and lower on button?

Is there around 2 fingers gap between tyre and inside wheel well?

They will overflow when the pulsation damper or other accumulators fail.

The fluid level should be in the bottom depression with the engine running, or the top depression with the engine off.

When my pulsation damper went last week, there was a bit of a moaning sound whose pitch rose and fell with revs (heard inside the car).
Do you have a good Independant with STAR nearby?
