Hi guys, a little help required, I had the car, 2007 w219, cls, diagnosed yesterday after the esp/abs light came on, the steering had also got heavy at low speed, I was told that either abs sensor or reluctor ring at fault, its due for repairs next week, my question is will the car need to go back on main agents star to re-activate the abs, I did swap out the suspect sensor but to no avail, the abs is lit upon start up whereas 2 weeks ago it would only register a fault after 100 yards or so, any info greatly appreciated

I have Abs issue as well. I ate a load of crisps and they disappeared :)

Sounds like a sensor fault, and it shouldn't need resetting after the fault is sorted

No reset needed - error may need clearing.

Use genuine MB parts.

Ring may need cleaning.

I used aftermarket once - no joke they both failed within a year. My indy called me an idiot and said too many probs with aftermarket sensors

Give me some slack dude. I dont harp on about genuine for no reason. Its experience......... and i have the blessing of AF our forum indy

We need a pint together soon!

I am only pulling your leg :) .... some things are best from a dealer & that's often sensors in general ... crank shaft sensors are another good example ;)

I had my fingers burned once using pattern brake discs & I know that MB/Vauxhall/Ford etc don't make them themselves, you know that they're made to a good standard & unlikely to suffer from DTV within a few thousand miles

Look forward to the pint ;);)

I had 2 successive cam sensors (from a good brand!) send me up the garden path on a mini. Scoped the cam/crank signal to eventually verify the issue was with the cam sensor. £125 bmw branded cam sensor later, all was fine....

What I do find odd is that upon startup the abs light is lit, I can understand the system seeing a faulty sensor on a rolling vehicle but not a stationery one!

It comes on at startup to show that the warning light is working... it then needs to go off after a few seconds - this is to stop the unscrupulous from removing the bulb on a car with a fault on the ABS system...

(Although people have rewired the light with a simple timer mechanism so it will pass an MOT with an ABS fault...)

Just an update on this issue guys, it may help somebody in the future, because it was a simple task I swapped out a rear sensor which didn't help and then fitted the removed sensor to the other wheel, still no good so car went in, they changed both reluctor rings but still no joy, they then replaced the brake switch which cured the problem!!!

Glad you got there in then and all is working again.

Did you scan for DTC or go by instinct ?
