Abs/ esp warning came up today heading into town. Drove 12 miles, parked, then when heading back couldn’t get beyond 3rd gear. Wouldn’t immediately go into reverse when parking. Is this just limp mode because of abs warning or something more sinister?

If it's gone into limp mode (which it sounds like it has), you'll need to get the fault codes read to discover the cause/cure. Mecedes specialist with STAR system is your best bet.

Smart + others :)
As above, usually abs sensor/ring just puts lights up, sounds more like gearbox tcu. Get fault read on a star.

Many thanks all. I’m assuming gearbox ok as seems a bit unlucky for that to fail alongside abs within hours. Star shall tell all!

Update to this:
Had a friend put this on his snap on diagnostic. Showed rear right abs sensor was faulty. He said it said ‘ sensor reading unintelligible’ and that indicated to him it was likely to be the ring on axle rather than the sensor. Would star give more detail?
He said prob £300/£400 to change sensor but if it’s the ring the axle alone is £1k. And probably a day to change. Anyone add anything to this? Thanks

Sensors go for a past time on these, but remove the sensor and look in the hole at the state of the reluctor.

£400 for the sensor fitted is expensive.

MB oem £67 + VAT ish
1 hour labour £85 + VAT ish

how much ? I did this job a few weeks ago for £100 , customer bought the reluctor ring which was £20 , don't let yourself get ripped off on the repair , it really isnt that difficult to fix
