Hi all, my 312 sprinter has just failed its mot with the N/S/F brake not working. I used a Gunsons Eezybleed and have pressure everywhere exept for the outlet from the ABS unit to the N/S/F. Absolutely nothing comes out when i loosen the pipe. Anyone got any ideas whats wrong and how to deal with this???

Sorry to hear this with your first post, and I have never heard of this, is the pipe damaged, have you slackened the pipe from the ABS pump and tried

Hi Malcolm, thankyou for your reply, i slackened the pipe "at the ABS unit" for the N/S/F with the pressure bleeder working, nothing came out. I tried all the other 5 pipes and fluid seeped as soon as i loosened each nut. It gets worse, i have already bought a new caliper from Mercedes as the mot guy had said that the ABS units never go wrong! argh. I've had the van 5 years and i have to admit i have never changed the brake fluid. If the previous owners (Edmunson Electrical) did not change the fluid then it may well have been in there 10 years. As i had to empty the Gunson pressure jar, i bled through one of the front to rear pipes until it ran clear, the fluid that was in there looked more like "real ale"!! is this because of rust and could it have rusted a valve in the ABS unit?

Blimey, have just noticed your number of posts.....only 17,515 more than me, on here a fair bit then ;o) kind of worrying that you have not heard of a unit failure before, any chance of it being anything else, although i can't see how (

I think that the answer is a secondhand one from Mercman or Dronefields

What ever you put in to clear it would damage the master cylinder then you start going backwards.

I have some 22,500 post around the world but still never heard of any thing like it, You will have a few before you are done, I suppose you need to get back on the road as soon as possible

Thanks for the Mercman tip, be really good if he has one or can locate, he's only 60 miles from me, can wizz down there in a jiffy on my motorbicycle )

Your right about needing to be back on the road, i have 14 impatient huskies that are tapping their feet in anticipation of going racing in the forest!!! they just don't understand ;o)

If they don't ever go wrong then there should to be a fair few kicking around secondhand....which in theory ought to make them cheap....as if!!

The sensors are in the hubs and have not been refitted correctly

I have just fitted a secondhand ABS pump unit i bought yesterday from Mercman. The problem with no fluid going to the N/S/F has now gone so it must have been a seized valve in my one!!

BUT....the ABS warning light will not go out on the dash now. I have driven the van with 2 wheels on the road and the other side on grass and locked the wheels and the ABS seems to be functioning ok.

Any ideas what the problem may be please guys????

I think that it would be better to have the codes read out

Indies charge up to £30 for a read out that will tell you where the fault lies

It could just be a wheel sensor thats been disturbed when changing the caliper

Was the light on before you changed it

HMMMM, will i have disturbed the sensor by taking the disc off for cleaning and changing the caliper? didnt take the hub off.

If i can't get anyone to check the ABS codes in time, does the ABS light affect my mot re-take??

The light was working correctly before i changed the ABS pump, will the diagnostic code check tell if the pump is not functioning correctly?

Yes it will, I hope it is the correct pump. If it was working ok before then forget the wheel sensor
