I have a 1988 W124 260E fitted with ABS and no traction control.  After leaving the car standing for a week the ABS keeps failing following starting of the car, I've checked the battery and had the sensors checked to no avail.  When (on the few occasions) the ABS doesn't fail sometimes the system will remove pressure from the calipers and the brake pedal / car can be felt to vibrate / lurch forward.
The only items I can see the problem lying in are the hydraulic unit and/or the physical wiring to the sensors...

Has anyone else come across this, or got any suggestions???

Rob.

ABS on W124 Saloon

Hi Rob,

I suspect that the vehicle hasn't check correctly. If your saying that there is viabration through the brake pedal accompanied with a sort of major "spring type noise" then recheck the sensors readings. It sounds like they are still operating outside of there intended range.

Make sure you get somebody competent to carry out this readings. ABS sensors are expensive.
