Ac red light

Hi went to see a mercedes c200 on 2002.the red light is on.on the ac.any one know what's up with it??

It's turned off.
No light = on.
Red light = off.

Hi the red light stays on if press it on and off
Then there is a fault in the system.

With the engine running and bonnet open you should be able to see the clutch on the AC compressor switch on and off when the button is pressed.

If the clutch doesn’t cut in when the switch is pressed it’s most common that you’re out of gas. Get it pressure leak tested as you may have a leak. Repair the leak then regas.

Pretty sure that's the old system. Modern ones are permanently engaged and vary flow rate.

A nice feature on that generation, turn off engine touch A/C button & the heater remains on for an hour. Great in winter, make sure the heater fan is on low speed.

“Rest” feature is still available. I have it in the SLK

Not a MB but, my friend bough had a car that had a broken AC, the pump would not engage, my thoughts were, maybe the gas is too low, in the end gassed up and it worked.

I'm not fussed about having working AC but I do want to get rid of the wurring noise coming from the compressor pulley
