Hello. Got a winning noise from the centre console that goes when the blower is turned off then turn it back on and it comes back. Starting to wonder if its my ac as i can turn it on and off and the noise goes. Also the revs run on tickover about half a thou' higher than normal then when I turn the blower off it drops back to normal.
My thinking was to remove the fuse for the ac to c how it runs after that and highlight the issue to being the ac.

Will removing the fuse cause any other issues or will the ac simply not run???

I seem to remember reading somewhere that even if the ac is switched off it will still kick in and out to dehumidifier/regulate temperature but I'm not certain of this.

Any thoughts on the matter would be great but it is certainly causing some kind of load to the engine when the blower is switched as the winning noise completely stops and the revs drop down when it's switched off.

I have a Mercedes w211 280 cdi aventgarde eclass on an 07 plate which I believe means when the ac is off the red light on the button is also off. Any help or opinions would be great thanks

When was it last gassed. The gas contains lube.

They do sometimes make a winning sound when they get low on oil and gas, so I’d start having that checked first by a proper AC outfit

The engine revs will change with AC on as there is increased load from the compressor

The 211 series is when Mercedes switched from red light on equals AC off to much inferior but industry standard of red light on equals AC on. Red lights are warnings that things aren’t working…

Bearings on the compressor could be on the way out

Is it the heater fan than is making a noise? Their bearings can also fail over time

So just to confirm.... On my car if the red light is on the ac is off? If this is the case then I've been running rnd with it on which explains a lot. What I'd planned to do was take the fuse out for the ac and if iv got no noise then iv sussed it but I wanted to know if the fuse is only for the ac and its not goin to cause any issues

No, yours is a 211 that’s when they switched to light on equals AC on
