I've had hesitation on my E240 - turned out to be either the MAS (Air mass sensor) or the O2 sensor - both packed in at the same time.
It will probably drop into safe mode if left for very long and could cause damage to the CAT so get it looked at. MAS is a good place to start. Pay a visit to your local Bosch agent.

Hi,

Just been out to my car and pulled the plug out of the MAF when running and the engine starts to run weirdly. Does this mean that the MAF is ok??

I've never been sure about this. On the one hand if the MAF had failed completely it may run better without it, but if, as with mine, it is was just reading a bit 'off' then its still better than nothing. So, IMHO - no it doesn't mean its ok, just that it is doing something.
When mine went it was actually the O2 sensor that was picked up on the diagnostic. Whilst it was on order I was coming down the motorway and it switched into safe mode and limped the rest of the way home. The O2 sensor was changed the next day but whilst better, it still didn't run right. 1 new MAF later and she was back to perfect.

Hi,
Just ordered a new MAF from Europarts, see if that will do the trick. Thanks for all your advice.

Regards

Ross
