Hi,
I am new here and new to Mercedes and AdBlue. I bought my vehicle in April this year. About 6 weeks in the Amber warning light came on. A friend has a scanner and checked the codes:
P229F85 Nox sensor 2 (Cylinder bank 1) has a malfunction.
P246309 The soot content of the diesel or gasoline particulate filter is not OK.
He cleared them initially. The amber light came on about 2 weeks later.
I then took it into a specialist indie for a technical diagnostic.
The same faults had reoccurred.
They did some tests and concluded that the fault is with the NOx sensor itself. They also checked the AdBlue Injector and found a leak that has blocked the exhaust aperture.
They have advised replacement of the AdBlue Injector, cleaning out the aperture, replacement of both NOx sensors including coding, and adjusting the AdBlue level and adapting the software. They have quoted £1770.
I would like to understand from other's experience and expertise:
How likely is it that no faults were present at time of purchase? Is it possible to check the history of error codes (e.g. when first occurred, when cleared)?
Do the recommendations from the indie garage sound sensible? Are there any other options?
Does the price quoted look the right sort of level?
How can I best prevent recurrence of this problem?
Thanks in advance for all and any help.
Gill.
