Adding Nextbase DAB

Mine is a Nextbase dashcam that comes with a power supply that is supposed to suppress interference, didn't work with the the DAB though.

Installed the Nextbase into my SL today. Everything was looking good until I plugged it into the 12v socket in the centre console. No DAB signal and feedback on the BT connection until I unplug it from the 12v socket and then DAB comes back and the BT feedback stops. I have tried the supplied power lead and a couple of USB power sockets with different USB leads. Clearly there is an incompatibility with the cars inbuilt power socket . Looks like I will need to install a new 12v socket into the glovebox afterall.

An update for anyone interested.

The DAB adapter now works even when powered on from the cars 12v socket. The solution was to buy a better quality USB power adapter. The ones I was testing with were made by Aukey and Scosche and they work fine powering phones and dashcams. The one that works with the DAB adapter is made by Anker.

Strange that the supplied Nextbase power lead wouldn't work.

I just need to run the cables into their final routes now.

Today I had to do a bit of essential shopping and had a chance to test the DAB adapter. My route took me through two DAB black spots (my ML350 and Audi S5 both lose the DAB signal for a short while) but the Nextbase just kept of going with no lose of signal, impressive.

It really isn't - The Nextbase does a scan when you first switch it on that finds all the DAB stations - you then pick what you want and away you go - The comands needs to be on AUX in (if you're using the audio lead and that is it

All the fitting of it looks confusing, are there places you can take your car that do it for you?

There are quite a few - might be worth speaking to @Alfie from Comand Online - they will probably have a very good solution

There are all sorts of fitters Lyn, just don't take the car to Halfords or a generalist, take it to a mob like comand.co.uk (AKA Unique Car Sounds) who specialise in fitting in car entertainment stuff, there's bound to be someone close to you if Lightwater Surrey is too far away!

We have a Halfords about a mile away. I remember taking my Fiat500 when I first got it as they offered a fitting service for the dashcam I bought, they couldn't even find the fuse for it so I had to use someone else

Well that might be a solution, get the person who did your dashcam to do it. A similar level of complexity. Just the aerial siting being the key success.

I had the same thought, it was this company https://www.avrmobiles.co.uk, I looked yesterday and couldn't find anything about DAB radios but having had a more indepth look just now I see they do, just need to find out how much it will cost as I think it will be me having to pay for it as Keith isn't bothered
