Having had my new under bonnet insultion re-attached with spray on glue twice by the company who fitted it, since having it fitted last winter i am getting tired of it dropping down in parts every time i open the bonnet. last time it was stuck back up i watched them do it, and they used a lot of spray on glue..can anyone suggest a better way of holding it place, was thinking having pegs installed on the underside of the bonnet to clip it in place??

Presume its an older car youare talking about, and the insulation is an afterfit.

It really depends on what type insulation you have, but if they sprayed on the glue, its sounds like a 'contact' type glue as used in uppolstry.

Evostick 'contact' (or similar) in a tin (as used by the glue sniffers). It is applied with a toothed plastic tool to both surfaces, allowed to dry to 'tacky', and then both surfaces are pressed together for a few seconds. The fact that it is put on librelly, rather than spray, will allow for more expansion.

These glues are pretty flamable in liquid state, so be carefull (smoking etc).

I changed my hood insulation pad a couple of years ago.

I purchased some high temperature neoprene based spray glue that could cope with the high temperatures.

It was from 3M, and I could only buy in a pack of 3 cans, so could sell you a can if you want?

Cheers,

Richard

Attaching underbonnet insulation........

Thinking about some kind of light metal or heavy wire lattice-type framework contoured to shape to hold up the insulating material, but the problem on MB bonnets is where to install sufficient fixing points around the edges/centre - no double skinning or the like to fix screws or rivets to attach said framework. Would a couple of wooden fillets, say 1" x 0.25" along the outside edges (where there's no contour to overcome) fixed to the underside with 'no-nails' fixing goo or the like do?
Did this kind of thing with a metal-framed greenhouse in order to attach screws ond other fixings for insulation material, hanging baskets from the roof, nets etc....... Still there strong as ever ten years on!!

Just a thought............
