Hi, we have had a 1990 R129 SL500 for some years. Just recently the orange warning light came on for the ADS and my Indy Merc specialist didn't have the appropriate diagnostic kit.so not sure what has happened..it is now occurring to me that ADS may never have worked on the car as I only ever tried the switch for ride height and could not really detect and difference. I am in Berkshire...anyone know someone who knows their way around this system that I could go to andlook at this?
p.s. also getting a strange creaking sound from the back suspension...

Unfortunately it was Star motors that have seen this already and admit that they don't have expertise on ADS 1....

That's a shame

You really do need a blink code reader, if the MIL indicator has come on, then there will be a fault code in the system, if memory serves me, there are about 22 reasons why it can come on.

You can get them on ebay for not too much money if you feel like doing some diagnosis yourself? Failing that I think you need to talk to one of our forum supporters who has already commented on this thread http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=84 who has experience with ADS 1

The hydraulic pump in the trunk is for the roof, not the ADS system. The ADS system uses a combined powersteering/ADS pump.

If you have no warning on the dash, which is not working, your roof?

@Richard Moakes is your man for this.

With these cars you'll almost certainly need a blink code reader - very easy to make, inexpensive and simple to use.
With a blink code reader you can read the ADS codes which may give you a clue as to the issue.

To use find the cover over the ECU (under the bonnet, oval shaped cover at the base of the windscreen Left side (on RHD cars) or maybe right side on yours.
This will reveal a 38 pin plug. Each pin corresponds to a separate control unit.
Simply identify the pin you need to connect to, connect the blink code reader and push the switch for a couple of seconds. Count the number of flashes of the LED. That's the first error. Repeat until you get the same number of flashes as first time. To clear press and hold the button 10 seconds.

If it’s an early car, it may have the 16 pin plug like my car.

I'm the owner of this car for 2 years ago
Its a real pleasure to drive it but I was know that the problems would be difficult to resolve
Thank you very much for your indications which will be very useful
I do the tests and answer you
I have an electronical pb too with the dashboard...,
When using direction indicators, all instruments are in dysfunction, gas gauge, dipstick oil, oil T°C, all needles panic,
But maybe I must talk about this subject in another thread
Have a good night

Dear All
I have resolved my dash flash problem (Thank you Richard for your recommandations)

It was simply linked to number 5 fusible (oxydation and bad contact)
I replaced all fusibles for more security

Please enclosed some photos
Next step ADS system (probably more difficult...)

Some news about my ADS system
Thank you LostKiwi for your recommandations
I built a box and checked system on sockets 1,9,16, the result is no fault found (one flash)
The good news are the box is ok, the bad news is that I don’t know the origin of the problem
Have you got any suggestions?
Have a good afternoon!
