Hello to all members,

I'm new to the forum and wondered if someone could help. I've got a 2001 E55 (210), and I would love to go on a good driving course that helped me understand how the car performs in different situations, such as Traction control on or off, best cornering lines etc. The problem I have is that we don't have anything like this available in NZ. I'm visiting England later in 2005 and would go on a suitable course if I could find one. If you buy a new AMG from Mercedes UK they will put you on a day course with your car, this would be excellent for me except I haven't purchased the car in the UK and the car is in NZ so that rules me out. AMG Have a course for the very well healed that they run in the Arctic circle or at a German race track of which are out of my league. Race and rally schools provide fun and excitement but the type of power delivery from an EVO VII or MX5 is different to what I'm really trying to get experience with.

Can any of you members recomend good driving instruction for the E55?

Thank you in anticipation.

You could contact MBUK and ask them who they use. Failing that, there are a number of racing schools in the UK (try yahoo.co.uk). Not sure how much they'll let you use your own car with no roll cage etc but they may do you a custom course to cover what you want to find out.

those were the days

As a former driving instructor, I recommend the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. (RoSPA). Try contacting them and see what they recommend. It might not be what you are looking for though, but good info nonetheless.

Have you never thought of taking advanced driving lessons.
If you want to race it on a track you will need an RAC competition licence.

If it's advanced road driving, then I would suggest contacting www.donpalmer.co.uk - he does both road and track work so would be able to offer more than a racing school or track day.

If you want true advanced driving then it's got to be someone like Don as RoSPA and the IAM do courses which can take months to complete.

I saw a program the other day about taking your car around the Nuremburgring in Germany and it is a fairly regular event and certainly not that costly. If I lived nearer Id take mine aorund. Mind you it is a bit of a daunting circuit.
I think J Clarkson took one round and found that a local women driver beat his time he was livid.
