Can I replace standard 195 65 R15 steel wheels with R14 rims with 205 95 tyres.

Would there be any detremantal effects?

TIA.

If the radius of the 205 tyre is the same as the 195 tyre then the speedo will read right .
BUT
putting a tyre with a larger side wall can cause some strange handling characteristics as the tyre will flex more when ther car is driven round corners.
It can also make a car feel slightly 'bouncy' if the suspension wasn't designed for a high side wall tyre ..

Also make sure the brakes on your car will fit into the 14" rimms...

Apart from that .... oh and the very slight possiblity that it may cause brake disk overheating (not enough air flow around the disks) .... usually not a problem though.

I have seen it done on older ford sierra saphires (some came with 15" cross spoke alloys wich use 195.50.15 tyres) as the cars got older (nearer the scrap yard) the owners wanted cheaper tyres...

Thats just general info ... but as to if they'll fit your motor you're better off trying to get in touch with some one like Andy who has much more Merc Specific Knowledge..
