Hi,

im considering buying a used 2002 ish C180k or C200k Coupe.
But i have a coupple of questions:

  1. When did the engines change? i.e from 129bhp to 14bhp for the c180.
  2. What are the servicing costs like?
  3. What are the service intervals?

I have done some research but i cant find any definative answers.
Servicing seems to be between 9,000 and 12,000 miles depending on where i look and Servicing cost varies greatly.

All i can find about the engine change is it was over year after the model was launched.

Thanks for any replies.

Jarv.

Hi
I’ve have a 2002 C200k auto coupe, sports, pan roof, leather, bought Jan 2005
Looks really good when it’s polish, fuel consumption about 30mpg general driving
The engine is the 2000cc with about 165bhp.
The C180k is the same engine but is about 145bhp
The engines change to the 1800cc dual pulse some time later I think 2004
had an A service at local MB dealer in Nov 05 £200, the B service is more expensive I think about £350 which is due in about 9K the time between services depends on how u drive.
Andy Gayle an independent in Birmingham and well known on this site, does the A service for £75 and B for about £150
I had to go to MB because my car was still under extended warranty
Let me know if u need any more info

Thanks,

Im only doing about 8k a year at the moment, down from about 35k.
So the service would probably be annualy then?

Looks like i should find a independat MB garage then :D
Anyone know of one in the North Lincolnshire area? (Scunthorpe).

I would prefer the c180k with the 143bhp if i can find one cheap enough.

When first launched the original C180 engine did not have the kompressor (supercharger) which is why it has less power. If it's the C180K it has the 143bhp.

I'm doing about 10K annually and my services are coming up a year apart, but it depends on how you use the car - how many cold starts vs long trips. The elecronickery measures oil quality and tells you how long before the next service, and will change its mind as you change your type of use. When buying one, switch on the ignition and find the 'miles till next service' display on the LCD panel. Also when the interval is less than 1000 miles, the display will say this when you first switch on.

There used to be a place in Brigg which was a Merc specialist. It was called Autotech, but think it is now called McLeod's, or something like that. I haven't used it recently (I've taken my E220 to Andy Gayle's before now, and use MB Grimsby for servicing at the moment), but can recommend it highly from when I did use it with a previous car.

Bought my 2002 c200k evo pana 17" alloys from Merc direct, knocked 2k off their asking price & got 1/2 price warranty for a year thrown in!
So maybe have a look at their website if you fancy one!

They are slightly xpensive though but worth the peace of mind for warranty purposes.

I bought mine as a parallel import and got 3k off list price. You still get a 2 year warranty which MB dealers have to honour as it's a Europe-wide manufacturer's warranty.

I'm now in year 3 but it would have to go very expensively wrong in the next few months for me not to be ahead after such a big saving.
