Im being offered a C180 (2002 model) with 11,500 miles on the clock but there is no service book. Dash shows next service due in 9000 miles.

Could this be its 1st service? Im suspecting that it would already have had a service under 10,000 miles. Checked with Mercedes UK and have traced minor warrenty work at 2 garages but no record of any service being carried out.

Would the remaining 2 years manufactures warrently be still valid without a service book?

Any thoughts? :?

I would imagine that the car has not had its first service......my E220CDi had its first service at 19000 miles. It all depends on how the car is being driven. If its done a lot of motorway mileage they can go quite some distance between services.

I got 23000 miles between my 1st and 2nd service.

In terms of warranty I would go into your local Benz dealer and discuss it through with them and see what they say, or speak to Customer Service in Milton Keynes.

Just a thought......is it a UK supplied car or an import....have you checked? If its an import its likely to have only one years manufacturers warranty.

All the best

Just another thought, have you checked the numberplates....they should tell you who the original supplying dealer was.

Give them a call and dicsuss your warranty/lack of service book concerns through with them.

If there's no dealer details on the plates, I would be getting a bit suspicious

Cheers

It should be possible to speak to the original owner (if he is not the one selling the car) from the V5/logbook address details, to verify mileage and condition etc. Also, and HPI check may reveal the final recorded mileage from the previous owner. The two small jobs done at the dealers should also have mileage records and you can see if the time and miles in-between are consistent.

20,000 miles may be correct for the 1st service, if the car has not been driven hard, but check with a dealer service dept.

I think that my colleague had his first A service at around 10,000 miles on his C320 and in anycase there is usually a yearly service even if the miles are not clocked-up.

It is very easy to reset the service indicator and so check carefully.

You can go to any MB stealership anwith the VIN number and they can check their systems for the service record - they can even make you up a new service book (for a fee) and re-stamp it correctly with all the service dates it has had.

Ditto for the MB warranty.

if you can't get any documents to back up the mileage I would just walk away as it could be clocked.

Thanks for the replies.
I'm going to check the numberplates to see who the original dealership was and give them a call.

Also, I'll get the VIN reference and check out the service records that way.
