Hello

I have just bought a '98 manual C180 CLASSIC at 49,000 miles. I would like to have an ac fitted. I got a quote from MB for £3500 (I wont be going there) and from other fitters -an average of £1300. This is my first mercedes. Does anyone think it is worthwhile fitting an ac into this car and would fitting a non factory-fitted ac into the car have any detrimental effect on the car? Also can anyone out there who hs had it done recommend someone to me?

Thanks.

it all depends on how long you are going to keep the car. It will add little to the resale value to be honnest. :(

Thanks for input Jason. Looking to keep for at least 5yrs so not really thinking about resale value. Keep being told that it requires dashboard being removed, new radiator etc... and am worried that this much disruption will mess the car up in some way.

AC retro

Hi

not only does the dash board have to come out but the front of the car is completly gutted its not a job I would trust to anybody, there is a good chance it will come back with rattles and damaged/loose trim, 1300 sounds remarkably cheap when you consider the parts required (as below) My mate has fitted several of these and you are talking about 14 hours labour for the Diavia kit which is the only one to consider.

Compressor
reciever dryer
Gas valve
evaporater
condensor
pressure sensor
temp sensors
control unit
wiring loom
relays
lots pipes
Gas
Possible wooden surround for centre console

I would want to see one of these 1300 pound conversions before I let them wreck my car. Sorry to be pessimistic

Thanks Piestore,

Is there anybody you or anyone else can recommend? I would really like to have it fitted, but like you mentioned I dont want the car messed up as a result.

It's an R- Reg[Feb '98] C180 manual with 49000 miles on the clock and is in excellent shape. The only minus is it's lack of airconditioning, but I would hate to have that done and gain a host of other problems.

All input positive or negative is appreciated.....

Hello,

Have u thinking of buying the Mercedes made air con component, used or new, and fitted by yourself or garage engineer??

This crazy idea, is come from my 300E, in which I am planning to do it this way, rather then though air-con installer mess up your car....

hope this crazy idea could help...

Gary!

AC fitment

D'you want to know something??

I wouldn't bother!!

I have had a couple of Mercs and currently own a C180 and a Lexus IS200 SE. My Lexus stinks of stale air and gives my wife a headache and blocked sinuses!!

God gave us electric windows and sun roofs - use them!!

In the UK, ac isn't (in my own humble opinion) necassary. It uses too much fuel, stinks and is overrated. I am not a fan of AC!!
