I have been thinking for a while now about replacing my 260E (in forma USSR )with something newer. Been looking at some E300 & the E2.9td as I do prefer diesels. I went to a local auto-bazaar last week where there were dozens of petrol 210s but only 5 diesels as the diesel cars are not popular here. I found some of the 1999 cars to look like our facelift models that I thought were introduced in 2001. Was the facelift introduced earlier in LHD cars?.
I also came across a 2002, 210, 270cdi. Again I thought the 270cdi was only introduced in the 211 models. This cdi is the only one I have ever seen in this country & it is offered at a very good price in comparison with other cars. But I have two reservations about buying it. Firstly it is white, I have always been in the frame of mind never to buy a white car as it would be difficult to re-sell. Secondly, if I had any problems with the car, there would be no spares available here & anyone capable of doing diagnostics I think would be difficult/impossible to find. I think the nearest MB dealer is 400kms away & not sure how capable they would be. I am tempted by the cdi but I think I should wait & try to find a 300 or 2.9 that from what I understand are fairly bullet proof. Do you guys think my reservations are justified or am I being over cautious.
Your advice would be appreciated.

I think you're being wise. No matter how bullet proof an engine is ( and the 270 is pretty strong) if you do get a problem, even a small one could become a real issue if parts and diagnostics aren't available.
Even a minor sensor can leave your car at the side of the road and without an experienced technician, fixing it could be a nightmare.
Get something that can be maintained locally or buy and older simpler model.

Just a little piece of info. Star Diagnostic tester cover every car in the range, irrespective of the country as they are all on lease and updated.

You could have a problem with spare parts if needed if not stocked by MB in your country

There was a W210 270CDi, although quite rare as a RHD. I've only ever seen 1 in the UK.

Malcolm,
You may be right about having star diagnostics as there are a lot of petrol 210s here & they must get them diagnosed somewhere. How competant the technicians would be on a cdi I dont know as this 270CDI is the only one I have ever seen here. Also the parts would be a problem.

hmang, There is nothing wrong with a 220cdi but there are no CDIs here where I am working in a former USSR country.
Thank you all for your advice.
