Advice Please! First Merc

Hi all, have been reading some of the v interesting threads and thought it was time to register and say hello....with the ulterior motive of hopefully getting some advice from you knowledgable people!

I took the plunge in Dec and picked up my first Merc (previously had a nice BM 5 series)...have always had a thing for the 'tiny' W140 and after viewing 5 or 6 I finally fell for a '98 S320 Long Wheel Base, have tried to attach a pic so hopefully it appears.

Although it was all main dealer servicing up to 87k miles (currently 125 on the clock), the stamps in the book stop there and even though it appears to be well looked after and clean oil etc I want to get a full service done (though cant afford main dealer) I also need to get it MOT'd as it has just expired.

I'm based in London near Walthamstow / Chingford.....any advice and/or recommendations much appreciated!! The only other issue is the tracking on front wheels which is slightly to the left - I got it up on the lift in Kwik Fit and they said they couldnt align them as there is a bit of give in the wheels when you rock them from side to side which I did myself....my Dad reckons it should just be the track rod ends that need to be sorted so again I am looking for the least expensive route - any help?

thanks in advance

Welcome, Keith!

You say there's a bit of 'give' in the wheels? That doesn't sound right. Go and put it through an MOT. That will tell you if TRE or whatever are needed.

thanks, I like it!! It's my new baby and we're still in our honeymoon period :D

Have attached a pic of the interior....it's business edition so I love the gadgets eg electric laptop table and rear blind, heated seats, all electrics etc - it's obsidian black which I see yours is also, the guy at MB Stratford seemed to think it's a rare colour for the W140?

It was leagues ahead of the other ones I test drove and I knew it was the right one once I sat in it....just need to get her to the doc for an MOT and a bit of TLC to make sure she's perfectly happy :)

Thanks for the comments and welcomes.....it would be really helpful if any of you can recommend a Merc specialist around North or East London - has anyone tried Cars with Stars?

I wanna get a full service done plus MOT but want someone reliable and honest who won't try to rip me off plus I'm on a tight budget!

any help appreciated

Just a quick recommendation for anyone looking for a MB specialist in London - AUTOMERC in Hornsey all the way!
Brought my beast into see Ivan and all good no major problems for the MOT just need to put legal plates on (previous owner had tacky italic ones)

It's a sense of relief when you find someone you can trust and you know you can go back to whatever the problem.....they've been there since the early 70's so I know who I'm using!
