Advice please on treating small corrosion spots

A bit of advice, please, guys. Katie's Honda Jazz has about half a dozen small corrosion spots on the roof. They look like stone chips but aren’t although they are all towards the front of the roof. We spoke to a body shop while dropping my car off earlier in the week and they said they could respray the roof but would need the screen out etc etc,

I reckon we could do it ourselves and make a reasonable job. It doesn have to be perfect but she doesn’t want it to look too obvious. Photo attached showing a couple of spots along with a 1p coin for size reference,

I suppose we need to rub off any corrosion, treat the area to prevent any further rust and touch up with a paint stick. Any advice would be welcome about technique, tips and materials to use, Thanks.

You could sand off and treat the corrosion, but if you're keeping the car long term, you'll need to cut out the rust and weld a patch.
I tried just treating the rust on an older car, and I've not had long lasting results - maybe I just didn't do a very good job of it.

You most certainly can do a reasonable DIY job with the paint though. The trick, I found, is to clear coat the whole panel at once. If the colour match is good the result might not be obvious at all.

My suggestion, would be this:

Items you will need: some suitable wet & dry paper, a hole punch, some pencils with erasers on the top, some glue, some (stationary) hole reinforces (yes, yes... no the things that reinforce the punched holes in paper, when they rip in a ring binder), and some colour matched paint with lacquer (maybe some spray primer)

I would punch some small circles of wet & dry paper & stick them to the eraser at the end of the pencil. If the paint blister will fit inside one of the whole punch reinforces, then great, stick one around it. You can then get busy with that circle of wet & dry on the end of the pencil spinning it around & sanding down the blemish.

Once you are down to bare, make sure its clear of rust, either drop some paint into it, using another hole reinforcer as a mask, or go first with some primer. Either way, I would go slowly and build back up the the surrounding paint level with 3+ goes at it. Might be worth trying to drop the paint into the hole from a piece of wire?

Once dry & cured could be polished back to try and blend as much as possible.

Although I'm sure, unless you repaint the whole roof you will still see it
