I have an early 70's SL R107 350, with the engine running fuel seaps up from the injector/head and its a lot of fuel!!! if the ignition is turned on and the fuel system primes itself the same thing fuel seaps up from the injector/head.

All 8 injectors do this so me thinks its not the seals at fault but fuel pressure regulation failure.

Cars done less than 40k and is in mint condition.
Any suggestions anyone please.

Fuel is coming up from the base of the injector, all 8 weep at the same time.

Car runs well, I can understand that possibly a few seals might be perished but all 8.

I havent got the car in yet but will have later this week, another chap did the service and last night I wondered if possibly the fuel filter had been fitted the wrong way around!!!

Is it the early EFI system?

http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as....701&VIN=*&CT=M&cat=042&SID=07&SGR=070&SGN=02

Could be seeping through the rubber hoses that connect the each of the injectors to the fuel rail.
Or at 35 years or so the fuel return is entitled to have gotten blocked up.

All the rubbers above the injectors are fine no leaks, the leak comes from the base of the injector at the head.
Wont know anything until the cars with me later in the week, will look at seals and if good then assume blockage on fuel return.

think the old SLs have Mfi dont they? if that makes any difference, seems odd its doing it when you put the ignition on though as there shouldnt be any fuel at coming out of the injectors until the car is running should there?

Good point as the excess fuel is returned via the pressure regulator

This is a bit odd as it would be strange for all 8 injector bodies to leak yet function correctly. If it was from the injector seat it would travel downwards towards the inlet.

This is a bit far fetched, but as the car sounds like it's loved it may be worth draining the tank in case of water build up.I know that it's a bit of a long shot, but the cold snap was cold enough to have frozen any water build ups damaging fuel lines(particularly the return in this instance) etc internally.Just a thought.

ok I have the car now and I have emoved the injectors, the rubber seals are perished but thats the least on my worries, Ive found that fuel is seeping from the injector body between the steel body of the injector and the plastic above it.

Im assuming that these cant be repaired and im currently looking for good used, MB new price is roughly £240 each + vat and I need 8!!!

Injector misery

Hello jib,

Not much help for you really, but is it the old Bosch D Jetronic system? I had that years ago on a W114 series 250CE and I tried Araldite around the injectors and, to some extent, it worked. I remembered having to replace the short flexible tubes on to the injectors.

It was all very frustrating as the car went like a dream, even before I sort of sealed off the injectors.

The following links are for a shop in the USA where I have bought Bosch parts FAR CHEAPER than here in France. These look like the injectors I remember:

I hope this is of some use.
