Aerial on SLK

Hi all - and Happy New Year fom a newbie in Glasgow.

I've just done a deal on an SLK350 automatic (54 plate) - can't wait to get behind the wheel. However, I noticed the aerial is black (car is silver) and looks dreadful IMHO. It's also just asking to be snapped off by the first passing vandal.

Does anyone know if there are any alternatives ?

Thanks

Peter

If it's a R171 then there are normally plenty of aluminium and other types on eBay.

The R170 aerial fits straight on, about £20 ish. The reception is not great and it's black plastic, so it could be painted, I was lucky mines is black, got to agree it looks wrong for the car , hence the reason why I changed it, strangely abroad they fit the same as the SL with the radio booster fitted I assume.

thanks dava.

I can't find any pics of the R170 style aerial - what size is it and where is it situated ?

Thanks

Thanks Malcolm - much appreciated.

Having done a bit of e-bay research, it looks as though the bee sting type aerials from Ace Parts come highly recommended for lots of makes. Any owners out there with experience of them ?

One other thing I'd appreciate views on before I pick the car up at the weekend - I am very fussy about having scuff free, clean wheels. The car I am buying is 3 years old with 17K on the clock. Is it reasonable for me to expect the car (which is an approved used MB) to have scuff free (essentially perfect) wheels ?

Thanks

I bought my 2004 C200K 6 months ago with around 45K on the clock. Quite high I know. It had perfect wheels when I bought it - no scuffs - as new. And they still are. All it takes is a bit of care when parking.
Its not unreasonable at all to expect blemish free rims. In fact, I would say its virtually essential. If they arent - then reject the vehicle. Thats my advice.

Many dealers will fit new wheels if you ask, may be not free but at a good price

Thanks for the advice guys. My only difficulty is that I am travelling from Glasgow all the way to Lincolnshire to collect the car so if the alloys are scuffed my options are limited.

I'd hate to turn and walk away - maybe the answer would be to get the selling dealers' written undertaking to reimburse me the reasonable costs of having them refurbished when I get back home - say up to £50 per wheel. Then pay for the car. Here's hoping they're perfect and it doesn't need to be discussed. I'm hoping my fiorst MB experience is memorable.
