Hello,

I have just bought a used Merc CLK320 coupe. Metallic Black, Black leather, the works! very happy so far.

thinking of having an aftermarket sunroof fitted. Advice?

I would want an electric tilt/slide sunroof, with as large an opening as possible, but I am want to ask about structural integrity of the vehicle. With its pillarles windows, I presume that a huge amount of the body work stiffness comes from the roof design and would like to ask the forum if there is any general view about this - does fitting a sunroof effect the structural integrity of this car.

Would anyone like to recommend a sunroom make/model/fitter. I live in St Albans, Herts.

I remember seeing a diagram of a CLK which showed the front door sills & B pillars to window level were heavily strengthened, I did not notice any obvious sign of the roof having extra support. As it comes as a cabriolet version too, maybe all the extra strength is in the body? Maybe someone with access to EPC can provide a diagram?

Good point about the Cabriolet, but it may have some extra stiffening not in the standard car, I don't want to reck the handling

Also, I did see one CLK with a factory fit sunroof so I guess it must be alright,

Hoping for a recommendation for one make or other.

Hello

Having drove an older ML when my father inlaw was looking I loved the full panarammic roof had, also having come from a convertible the solid rood does take some getting use to.

I couldn't find anyone who would fit the large roof but there was a company (I just googles sunroofs) that would fit a tilt and slide glass roof as the original.

From memory it was around £1000 which is about the same had one been ordered with the car. Think it was also a Webesto make?

thanks

Aftermarket sunroofs..ha.. really bad news... not to be recommended..you just try and get someone to repair it when it stops working or leaking..or even get parts for it ..Oh and just on the subject for anyone with a discovery..the older model with twin sunroofs..you cant buy a seal.. but citroen fitted the same roof to the saxo and you can buy the seal from them..

Actually I had a Nissan 200SX turbo for a while (an S14 A Touring) with an aftermarket sunroof that was fine, I just don't remember the name. I too Googled around and found two companies who supply and fit a variety of shapes/sizes/types... but was wondering if anyone in this forum had a recommendation.
