I now have a car with the M276 DE35 engine. In a previous post I asked the question about the reliability of the W112 engine, and someone mentioned about the crankshaft position sensor being about the only problem. So would I be wise to carry one as a spare for this engine and should I buy a OE one from Mercedes or a aftermarket one. I know with my previous car a Jaguar where electrics was concerned it was better to buy OE.
Any thoughts.

Bosch or MB only.
Carry one if you want but I don't carry one in any of the three cars I have that use that sensor.

replacement can be a major MITA, not something that would be easily done on the roadside most of the time, but you can carry a spare if you want :)

That's what a big yellow taxi is for.

Easy enough if it comes out easily but they often don't as you know!

OK So what's the symptoms when they fail is it just that it won't start or does it go into limp mode. The only reason I started this thread is because I thought the sensor was problematic.
Next question is, where is it situated on the m276 engine. I can see a sensor to the bottom left of the crankshaft pulley. Is that the one.

They cut out when hot, then restart after 20/30 minutes when they cool down.

If you have an M276 I'd stop worrying.
It's not the same engine as an M112.
