Hi All,

My E350 (2010) Requires a new battery as it is knackered! Due to my limited mileage and short journeys i am looking for a heavy duty battery now, i saw the AGM battery advertised and understand that it is designed for start/stop cars but would it be ok for a non type vehicle, if not any suggestions?

Thanks as always.

As per Malcolm, stick with std Lead Acid type. Possibly invest in a battery conditioner, with the money you'll save on the ludicrous cost of AGM!!

Another vote for a Bosch S5 / Varta silver.

If doing low mikes, make the effort to get it out for a good weekly run on the motorway and consider a nice trickle charger.

Varta Silver would be my battery of choice. Appear to be the same as Bosch (apart from case colour) but normally a few quid cheaper at Tayna Batteries. Excellent service and quick delivery. I echo the comments re hooking up a battery charger/conditioner, given your low mileage.

I changed batteries on both cars this year, Varta for three and merc standard for SL starter. Lack of miles due to non work means batteries will wear out quicker. The Varta came Tanya, Merc standard for SL starter came from European supplier. Avoid Stealers at all costs.

Although Newcastle and Edinburgh dealerships have been helpful for parts

I know everyone loves to bash them, but I just bought the ctek mxs 5 at Halfords for £50 with a trade card and the extra 10% offer they have at the moment. Everywhere else seemed to be nearly £80.

I've got two of them but just bought a Noco Genius 5, I think it's even better than the CTeks

I've not even taken the Ctek out of the box yet, so would have sent it back if the Noco was the same money. Noco is £65, so I'll see how I get on with the Ctek.

The Noco will charge a flat battery at only 1v unlike the CTeks. It also does lithium batteries too.
