I have just bought some nicer alloys, and they require the shorter nuts.

i sort of need these this weekend so if i cant get any tomorrow morning i'll be getting a bit desperate!!!

Does anyone have at least 15 of the shorter nuts for my W202!!? in huddersfield!!!????

bit of a massive bugger too with the fact that my ubiquitous locking bolts wont fit either :(

They are almost £2 each from MB worth trying a breaker, shops like Top gear sell them for £1 each but they must be 12mm radius bolts and could be 28mm long

If there is enough threaded part you can saw them down the old ones easily,, there should be 12mm sticking out of the rear of the wheel when they are pushed right through

Cutting a bolt usually buggers the thread unless one can spin a nut down past the cut point first. Removing the nut then clears the thread.

Is £40 too much for peace of mind?

Cant agree that cutting bolts messes up the thread, just a light file or grind clears it all

You wouldn't need the file/grinder if the thread wasn't damage? The nut option is easier ;)

Anyway, £40...

You are only removing the burr set up by the sawing action, the file would remove it. sure the nut is a good idea, but better to round the end a little for easing when screwing them into the hub, and good engineering practice

i'm not worried about the price, but the availability. i had to wait for a good few days when i ordered the spare wheel nuts and now i am not sure on the legality of my tyres.

i dont think there is enough to chop them down as they go to the end of the threaded part and the wheel is still loose.

Really as peter said above it is not worth chopping them down for what they cost unless you are stuck.

It surprises me when you say that they are not in stock, many dealers change them on their stock cars as they can go so rusty, and the 28mm are by far the most common

i had to order in the super short ones. apparently.

anyways, popped down the breakers this morning and they showed me an oil drum full of assorted bolts. i found 20 that were 6mm longer than the new ones i got, and they fit fine with no clunking or knackered handbrake bits falling out. problems solved. now, locking wheel nuts. that the next thing. going to sell my old wheels now methinks

Please check that the ones you bought were radius bolts and not taper, there is a big difference, and they are safety items

Yes that is fine, I did not make my last post very clear,,so pleased that you got some, they are the correct ones.

With the wrong bolts a pot hole could shatter the holes, and I did not want you to spoil your new wheels :D

awesome. such a stress.

felt like some sort of automotive warlock with a spider wheelbrace raking nuts around in that oil drum [or cauldron so to speak]

there was a 230k in blue there with some pattern amg rims that had has a light frontend. that had longer tapered bolts in the wheels. didnt want them cuase they were too long. :)

glad i did right. now to see if it passes the MOT :S

You can spray the wheel bolts up if you want to,, just take one out of each wheel, take a piece of wood and drill 4 holes in it , and use hammerite, and it last very well

lol
if its good for its MOT i will tart it up. i need to tidy up one of the wings, the paint has bubbled slightly - like there is liquid underneath the paint. we'll see if it needs a pair of suspension arms for the MOT or wheel bearings. i dont mind bearings but the ****** arms are £110 each from ECP or GSF

the liquid will be water coming through pinholes in the metal. i dad that on my front wings. cured it using POR15. i never knew anyone that had used it personally but it seemed to talk a good job on the website, so i bought some from the frost website and, i must say, im impressed so far! used it and painted over it before the warrington meet, and looks as good now as it did then! winter coming should be the real test, but i dont anticipate any problems
