Have been playing around with the air con on my recently aquired E300TD and can't seem to get it to work. The owners manual is a little vague in this respect and I have a few questions.

1 Does the heater control have to be in the blue segment or white?

2 Does the economy button have to be lit or not?

3 Is the outside ambient temperature a factor, ie, does the system not work if the outside temp is too low, if so, what is the minimum temp it will need to operate?

4 I have checked the fuses 4 and 7, they are ok, is there anything obvious I am missing before I delve any further?

I have tried various settings and I can't see the pump clutch energised.

Any assistence would be greatly appreciated!

I'll have a go with a couple of these, though an expert will probably be around soon :)

1. Either (even the red, though obviously not for cooling)
2. Lit for off, unlit for on.
3. Unsure, but thought dependant upon inside temp?
4. Pass sorry :(

To sum it up, if your temp control is in the blue, and the EC light is off, it should be icy cold inside.

To check if you are low or out of gas pop the bonnet and whilst the engine is running have someone press the EC button on and off with the temp dials set to blue. You should see the compressor clutch engage and the compressor then spin up. This is at the front of the engine on the nearside.
If as I suspect the compressor isn't running find an independent AC specialist in your area and have him do a leak test on the system.

As Blobcat, just turn the wheels fully anti clockwise, when the gas is low it cant turn on.

Thanks for that, hoping it just needs a re-gas, I cant get the clutch to engage whichever way the controls are set. Is there a low pressure switch somewhere that detects that the gas pressure is low and overides the controls?

There are two sensors for the presure.

I do not know if your car is a 124 or 210,the pic is for a 210

If its a 124,go to here and find your car, then heating.
