Good Evening All,

The Mrs picked me up from work the other day.

When she pulled up I thought the 'diesel rattle' was a bit louder than usual.

I lifted the bonnet and noticed the air filter housing heat shield was slightly touching a peice of metal below causing a metal on metal rattle.

I took apart the air filter cover and made sure that was all fitted correctly, which it was.

I noticed that the actual housing seems to have a centimetre or two of play and sits in a lower position rather than an upper position if that makes sence?

Due to the fact that i'm not the best at describing things in the engine bay I made a little video on my phone which i've uploaded to youtube.

Ideally I would like to know how to hold the filter housing in the 'upper position' i mentioned before as this will stop the metal touching.

I didn't record with the engine running so you won't hear the rattle but if you would like me to do a recording with the sound let me know.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

Cameron

On the inside of the box is two male torx bolts which have rubber mounts, i suspect you havent got the washers on the inside which as the bolts tighten, they push into the mounts and clamp it all tight!!

Mine wobbles a little too. Not as much as that though. Should there be any movement between airbox and engine?

Hi, thanks for the swift reply.

Why do I get the feeling it's going to be a royal pain to get into the washer?!

I have my Haynes but it doesn't appear to have any info on getting into this area, any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

Are you sure it isn't the rubber mounts on the top of the air filter housing? I mine were stretched so I bought some new ones from MB and the rattle has gone.

Ive had the same thing, mine had snapped.

Hi,

any chance you could take a photo of the rubbers you mean?
