hi all have a 2002 e320 auto 90k on the clock already had to change the auto box grrrr, car has been running fine but then had starting problems, narrowed it down to the mass air flow meter but have since tried 3 of them now and still same long start or no start problem, friend ran diagnostics but no faults showing !!!!! the starting reminds me of on old cars when there was no fuel getting in,we replaced it back to original broken meter takes 3-4 attempts to start but is then fine no backfires no flat spots no stalling nothing please please help :)

Air mass sensor will not cause hard starting in the way you describe. More like fuel running back. Have you checked the fuel pressure with ignition on?

I changed the fuel regulator on my CL last year, it was a lot of cranking on the first start of the day, the pressure must stay up for a certain period, the new regulator fixed it with an instant start now
