Airbag or seat belt malfunction

Hi guys, my w204 has this error message "front left and right airbag malfunction, consult workshop". When it was diagnosed I was told the seat belt tensioner is faulty. And I mean on both sides at the same time?? I was also told that the seat belts might not even pop in case on an accident. So I was wondering whether is it necessary that I go to the worship or is there maybe a switch that I can reset or not.

Hi Jack,

I got exactly the same message (except it said right not left) on my old E350. It turned out to be the connections to the airbag in the steering wheel. Garage cleaneed and remade the connections and all was good - only cost 1/2hr labour I would guess your problem is similarly due to a poor connection.

No idea what your model is. But there is a merc recall on airbags of certain models. Put your vin in the merc recall page.

I did and even received the sms and later got a reply stating that my vehicle is not in this first recall list and that there will be other recalls so I should wait.
