Can anyone tell me where the aircon condenser is on a 1995 E280 estate? Is it visible?

Open the bonnet, at the very front you will see some electric fans up against what looks like a radiator.

That is your condenser, it is right at the front of the car, before the main coolant radiator.

Cheers,

Richard

W 124 aircon condenser

Richard,
Thank you very much. The condenser was supposed to have been renewed when the aircon was repaired because apparantly it had a hole in it. The item you mention has never been changed which might explain why the aircon still does not work.

Advice...Maybe

On things like this its always worth locating the part and marking it in some way before anyone gets thier hands on it.

Theres been many a horror story regarding cars after oil changes having no oil and daft stuff liek that.

Never trust a mechanic........unless that mechanic is you coz we all only human!

Ramius,
You are so right. I don't think in case MB dealer could claim it is a new condenser as it is dirty and full of squashed flies, leaves etc. We will see though.

W124 aircon

MB dealer did not repair aircon for some reason while car was in garage. However when I raised this with them they then did everything to rectify promptly, collecting car next morning and returning that afternoon with new condenser fitted. Aircon now works perfectly and also car no longer overheats. Previously in hot weather if crawling or stationary in traffic temperature used to rise to near top of the gauge before an electric fan could be heard cutting in). Last Friday I was stuck for an hour in a traffic jam on the M6. It was hot outside but although gauge rose a bit above normal (maybe 10 degrees) the electric fan cut in and brought it back down immediately.
