220 series S 320cdi first registered Dec 23rd 2005 has now done about 10k miles (because I love driving it so much). Minor niggle is that the air conditioning needs to be set to about 18 degrees to get an interior temperature of 21/22 degrees. Never had this one on all the various Mercs I've owned. Wondered if anyone else has had it and knows the cure. Is the performance of the unit being affected??

Your still under MB warranty have them take a look. You may be losing gas if you need to set the temp so low to maintain 21'

Yes, am going in on Friday. What do you mean, Blobcat, about losing gas, please?? How would that affect the temperature I set being so far below the true temperature?

I assume you are using an thermometer inside the car, to show the true temp,
Have you checked your pollen filters and charcoal filters, if they are clogged the AC has to work alot harder.

What i hate most about the assyst sytem is that my car is covering over 13K before a service, I think many things should be checked way before this mielage.

JEEZ your clocking up some miles, I think you will have a B service straight away.

If the air con system has lost gas then it is unable to cool the air. The AC should be a sealed system with the gas being pumped around. Without gas there is no cooling below ambient air temperature.

Thanks for this. Yes, using thermometer.
Good idea; will get filters checked
Yes I worry how far cars go now between services. What do you mean about B servoce straight away? Can that happen? I thought it went A, B A,B etc. Mine says service in 5000 miles time which will be over 15,000 before its first service. You're right that this is a long time with no checks.

Thanks for that, Blobcat. Will get them to check it out. Funnily enough, I have had the impression that the system is not as efficient as the E class I had in '04. Only an impression so not said to dealer but after what you say I'll mention that. She'd done 6k miles before I got her -mainly motorway I was told. MD of a Merc dealership owned it and used it to and from work. Kept it nice.

although we are being a little side tracked from you original post which is not uncommon on the forum

on my w220, my first service was at 15K, it was a B service - about £500 . Its determined in relation to the high mileage in a certain time period and determined by assist.
Then if you do below 13500, between services or less its an A service (about 300) from WIS - service sheet

I would also recommend you obtain a traditional engine oil dipstick if you like to check things for yourself, although you may not have noticed, these cars dont have a dipstick (only a red bung) - with the oil level checked electronicilally.
If a fault with your sensor, how would you know you have the correct oil level.

Sometimes they try and get too clever with cars! then again we shouldnt be too clever buying them

Thanks for that. Hadn't realised you could start with a B service. Yes we have no bananas; checked -no dipstick. What an odd arrangement. Assume you get from Merc dealer??? Just poke it in as normal?
