Hi I drive a me recedes E280 CDI 2008
Since I have owned it I have changed both rear airbags ( front has conventional springs from factory ! I have changed the level sensor in the rear axle and the car worked beautifully for a year . Now they have failed again , this time the back is really low and will not go up even when I start the engine
When plugged the computer say Airmatic not responding
I have tried to source the phantomatic 40 amps fuse without avail
Is not in the fuse box in the engine bay neither is in the one by the driver s door and in the passenger footwell I have taken all the carpet apart and the metal plate behind it and there is not fuses there min the boot or near the battery no Airmatic 40 amps fuse
Can anyone help ?

This may be worth checking although it's originally printed for a petrol W211 model.

Airmatic relay (S) is clipped to the outside of the fuse box on the drivers side engine bay. It will be the one at the back of the fuse box on the right as you look from the front.
The only 40Amp fuse is f61 in the same diagram and its for the air pump.
As above, it could be the wiring itself has failed .

I’m puzzled
There is not 40 amp or fuse 61 in the engine bay fuse box and there is not fuse box in the footwell passenger side :(

UPDATE
today I have taken the wheel arch liner and inspected the compressor , as I start the engine the compressor runs for few minutes then stops , on closer inspection I have noticed that the air filter line not the pressure line , blows air ! Shouldn’t that be a feed ? Vacuum ? Maybe the compressor has failed ? Also now the boot will not open electrically. When I press the button unlocks but won’t open :( I wonder if I have disturbed something :(

Does anyone know where the Airmatic control valve is located in my car ?
I stand to be corrected, from working on my 2004 S211 E320 CDI the solenoids and non return valves within the compressor control air in and out of the air springs via a drier and exhaust silencer. The air springs have a solenoid to let compressed air in and out and will stay inflated if disconnected. The controller reads ride height from the axle sensor and calls for air in or out via the compressor.
