alarm hazards problem

hi, i have recently purchased a w202 mercedes c220 cdi (2000 model) and have a slight problem with the alarm system. When the alarm is activated using the keyfob, about 30 seconds or so later the hazards begin to flash and continue doing so until the doors are opened and then relocked. I tried disconnecting the battery and leaving for about half an hour or so but has made matters worse and now after the car has been locked the alarm also goes off with the hazards flashing.
Anyone that can shed some light on this problem, has experienced the same or has cure for it, please please let me know as all information however small will be greatly appreciated.

The alarm siren is the most common cause of alarmm problems on your car. It is found near the NSF wheel behind some trim from memory.

Check none of the door contact switches are faulty (turn off interior light when depressed).
