Hi,, 1st time on here. I am about to buy my mates merc C Class 180 1994, unfortunately the car's been standing for some time as he's bought a new merc and not bothered selling this one till now. We put a new battery on but alarm just keeps going off and will not reset with fobs although the fobs light up.
The fobs have merc badges on and have two buttons, one raised one depressed, there is a switch on the side which when the unit is opened up shows readings of 12 & SS on the micro switch, it has a 12 V battery and there is a small screw which I presume is to adjust the frequency. there is a number on the inside case of each fob under the PCB, they both match.
Any ideas on why they dont now work???? if we cant get them working I cant test drive the car and wont buy it.

Sounds like a SCORPION ALARM

Dear LLyns

Sounds like youv'e got a SCORPION alarm fitted - same as me.
Only had my car 4 months or so & battery in sender unit on button pad has gone 3 times.
in short, battery fails if it is incapable of sending over 12.5 volts.
Recently bought 2 x new 12v Energiser alkalines & only one worked - but for how long?

Always only use the raised button, indent button is a panic alarm for carjackers at traffic lights etc.

The switch on the side either adds interior movement sensors which is seen when it locks by flashing indicators 3 times, or 2 times, where as in my case I've switched these off so as not to get on neighbours nerves when sid the spider decides to take a walk around inside at night.

Looks like battery has to be at peak performance to work & no amount of holding it near its reciever (behind glovebox or steering column) will change its mind, whether locked or unlocked!

As a result I am having to store a couple spare new batteries in clovebox & dive on these when it decides to fail, by unocking door with key (while alarm is sounding off) & grabbing batteries to change over.

Really only use the system when car is parked in dodgy places.

The white labels in button pads are thier signal codes, so leave them alone.

Don't mess about with the screw either.

As I am doing to get over this problem, I've contacted an alarm specialist who's looking into swopping over the whole unit (estimate £100-200).

Scorpion have now gone out of buisiness & although another company took them over, they are running out of servicable parts fast.
Pop into Homebase for A23 batteries at £1.99 each (Energisers) or look for good quality Alkaline GP or Duracell.

Your friend may still have the barrell key to switch or immobilise the alarm (mine is fitted to inside glovebox), but that may only work once you have sccessfully unlocked it.

Hope it helps,

Keith.
