Hi my friend asked me if i could help him solve this probem with the help of the forum members .
Car is a Mercedes C200 W202 1999 ,, A new 12 volt battery was fitted. And power keept in the system so computer and radio code was retained . He now has this problem - siren goes off, and the lights flash .Only way he can stop this is to remove the battery terminal to reset it .Re connect the battery and it goes through the same sequence again - alarm sounds the and lights flash. .Everything worked well before the new battery was fitted .Thank yuo for looking.

These alarm sirens are well known for playing up after some years and given this car is 21 years old it seems to have done very well if it's the original. Straightforward disconnect and / or replace.

I'm pretty certain that's going to be the cause. My last 202 was only about 9 years old when its siren played up, so the car in question has done very well.
