Mercedes CLA 220d
Hey everyone,

First time post so hope this is ok.

I have a 2016 Mercedes CLA 220d. Just recently I have had an intermittent fault which is becoming more regular (every drive). I start by getting a warning around parking pilot inoperative, then parking brake, then power steering (power steering stops working) then multiple messages (tyre sensor inoperative, abs, traction control) I honestly don’t think there is another light or warning which can come on !

Then the dials all go a little crazy (no revs, no speed, oil and fuel gauge drop to zero). The window wipers even come on !

It comes and goes.

Weird thing is the car runs fine. I’ve just recently had the I take manifold replaced.

I’ll share some photos but any insight is welcome.

Thanks again.

I did try to search but with so many faults I was struggling to find a specific thread.

Get the voltage checked on your main battery and auxiliary battery if you have one.
Low voltage on Mercedes seems to cause many spurious faults that disappear with a fully charged battery.

Sorry to bump this thread again…

I’ve checked aux battery (under passenger footwell) voltage and load check all ok.

Checked main battery, was goosed so got a new one today.

Problem remains

Intermittent and only happens after driving for 10+ mins.

Not everytime, but more often than not.

Just if anyone has any further ideas or thoughts.

Sounds like its time for a visit to a good Mercedes specialist to determine what's going on.
If you post your location possibly someone can recommend a specialist. I'd avoid the main dealer simply because of the horrific labour rates for diagnosis.
A mercedes specialist should have Star diagnostics which helps identify the issue.

Thanks mate.

I’m based Motherwell, happy to visit any recommendations in Glasgow or surrounding areas.

So frustrating

That’s an inlet manifold, new brakes, battery and window regulator all in 8 weeks.

Cars been flawless up until now in 7 years of ownership.

Have these issues started after the above work - something disturbed maybe.
Go through the engine bay and check all cabling is routed properly and connections are well seated.

I can imagine some electrics have been moved to get to the inlet manifold.

No breakthrough yet.

Going into a Mercedes specialist local to me on Monday.

Checked earths etc, nothing . Getting a sensor fault for the air con out with when the lights go crazy. Checked the sensor and a bit dirty but no signs of liquid etc.

Was happening even before the inlet manifold. Had a faulty window regulator replaced and it happened before that too.

I’m at my wits end with this car over the last 8 weeks . Over £2k spent after years of flawless ownership

This is the fault which comes up quite regularly and has done for a few weeks.

Would this cause the issues I’m describing ?

This has an electrical feel to it, a loose connector, a bad relay, a loose battery lead somewhere loose connector to fuse box (SAM unit) and always the chance of water ingress messing things around, then there's the ignition switch maybe.

suggestion - turn the panel light on and check if its flickering when all this happens (that said LED lamps don't tend to flicker like the old filament lamps)
