Hi,
Sorry if this has been answered, I have a brand new 2009 ML 320 with TV/DVD.
IS there any way to allow TV/DVD to continue to play whilst the car is in motion?

Regards,

Greg

Its illegal, if the plod check it you'll get a defective vehicle notice, i dunno about modern mercs but i used to do it on my ICE installs just by earthing the handbrake sensor wire so the unit thought the handbrake was on so the front seat passenger could watch telly as well.

The question is why ?? There are enough distractions already without a TV being on, i for one would sue you out of existance if you hit me while watching a blo*%y TV whilst driving

at the back of the unit one of the cable is connected to handbrake, you can remove this connection and connect it to earth and it should work

delboy777,
thx for your response. I didn't however ask for your thoughts!
I simply asked for an answer. But seeing you gave your thoughts.
I have been driving for 6 years with a Clarion after market TV and never once have I come close to having an accident. It is the driver who cause accidents not the equipment.

The day will come when you do, and lets just hope its not a human you hit whilst watching TV.

Irresponsible and foolish.

I wholeheartedly agree that a driver should not be able to see Video whilst driving. In fact, any form of distraction, most notably talking to a passenger (ie. turning ones head) or servicing children should be wholeheartedly discouraged.

What is at issue here though is that the features of these cars cannot be used by the passengers. Surely Mercedes can make a motorised blanking plate, akin to monitor security devices to bar the driver from physically seeing the screen when Video is enabled and thus keeping the front passenger entertained, and in the process the passenger wont distract the driver? What about 3rd party add-ons which clip on to perform the same function?

I have Mercedes rear seat entertainment but you cant watch the video source on the front screen when stationary (a little daft for those who have to spend lots of time sat waiting in their cars). You can hear the rear video source on the speakers whilst driving which can also be distracting. It seems the whole ICE idea in Mercedes vehicles hasnt been well thought out.

I have Alpine TV DVD which is enabled to play video while driving but i dont obviously watch it while driving. I have the controls enabled on the steering control so do not need to move hands or look away to change tracks etc.

I think its personal prefrence as to what you like. I have connected my Video Ipod to the stereo which is interfaced via the stereo and now i can watch videos and play music from the ipod on my screen.

Its wired to the speed sensors
Malc, how do you get speed sensor on the stereo cabling? I have recently fitted a multimedia unit to my brothers car which needed live feed to the cable which is usually linked to handbrake and now his car can also play movies while driving

This question is too hard, if one alters anything on these many parts of the car will not operate correctly, with the roof closers on the folding top cars, to many things are changed for my liking

I don't want to get into an argument, but you should consider what would happen if a child stepped into the road in front of you - so close that there is no way you can avoid running them over.

Now consider how you would be treated if the police discover you had a tv screen playing in the front of the car, even if you claim you weren't looking at it.

Now, how about if it was your child killed??

I'm not telling you how to live your life, that's up to you.

I totally agree. We have enough accidents with mobiles.. but thats me own view. (I have collected human bits in the past from an accident caused by distraction)

Wasn't the lorry driver who smashed into the back of the car on the M6 and destroyed a complete family of 6, alleged to have been 'only' looking at his laptop for sat-nav instructions?

Coward? nothing - Malcolm.

I'm glad this post has been replied to in this way.:p
I like to think I belong to a 'family' of responsible, well-meaning, careful drivers.
IMO, I fail to see how anyone could justify watching DVD's, texting or anything else while in charge of a vehicle.

To be fair to the OP, he was merely asking a question.

However, the potential consequences of such an act are unspeakable.

I agree Malcolm. We are now 'risk assessing' and the possible consequences! Perhaps not a bad thing?
