Hello All,

Two of the alloys on my 51 plate w203 are showing signs of corrosion beneath the original silver coating. There is no corrosion near the rims where I would expect to see damage due to kerbing etc, but just on the spokes. (Standard MB 15" alloys) The silver coating is still intact but at some point I would expect the loose coating to flake off.

My question is would these be covered under the original anti corrosion warranty?

I would fully expect to be told 'not covered' by MB, but I would like to be fore armed so I can argue the point.

I am the 3rd owner, and the car has mainly MB Service history, but I do not have a copy of the warranty to check myself.

If anyone has a copy of the warranty offered with this model of MB I'd appreciate a copy.

Many thanks,

Chris.

I managed to get all 4 wheels replaced on a five year old CLK, well at least I thought I did, they asked for a contribution of £65 per wheel, I thought thats not bad, the tyres were 3/4 worn so they asked if I want new ones, I said ok then all in all it cost me over £650.

A year later I need two rims sorting out on my quattro, the guy told me he did all the refurb work for the local merc garage, he only charged me £30 a wheel then so god only knows how cheap the local merc garage got them done for.

Stiffed again. :(

I'm sure the warranty on MB wheels is only 2 years.
Anything after that is down to goodwill.

Thank you gentlemen for your honest advice.

Looks unlikely that I will get anything towards the replacements. I've bought one wheel so far, and I need a couple of tyres for a forthcoming MOT, so I'll probably get the wheels I've got refurbed one at a time, then use the fifth as the spare and ditch the steel rimmed spare.

Anyway, I'll ask at MB just in case. Don't ask, don't get etc.

Thanks again,

Chris.

Hi,
You could try dropping fellow forum member Stats007, as refurbishing alloys is his buisness, and the quality of his work is highly regarded, plus he is mobile and would be able to complete in a day.

Malcom, a friend of a friend, (I know not always 100%),is telling me that that a wheels repair fanchise he knows is working on refurbishing wheels in one of my local MB dealerships, I take it just ticklying the alloys up for used car resale, is this the type of refurb, your refering to, or are you refering to full blown repowereding refurb. Only asking as I had intended to approach this party to do one of my wheels. Is this a full MB dealership directive, or have I got the wrong end of the stick!

The mobile guys can do a fair job on tidying wheels up, they do not do a full blown blast off.

Its up to the individual dealers as to what they do with cars for sale, and the wheels. big kerb damage must be machined off

What Malcolm was referring to is that MB UK's policy on warranty claims used to be to get the wheels refurbished (by Pristine Wheels). However they stopped that a couple of years ago and now only supply brand-new wheels.

Looking
Thanks for the recommendations guys :).

Wheel refurb prices vary all over the country - pretty much like any service industry. At the end of the day you also get what you pay for. If you take your wheel to a main dealer then they will sub-contract refurbishment out to a local company - Lepsons, Pristine, Spit & Polish etc and add a markup in the process. They also use Smart repairers to bring their forecourt stock up to scratch and can pay as little as £25 per wheel for touch up jobs where the wheel doesn't even come off of the car. Some dealers are now moving Smart repair in-house - scuffs, dents, alloy wheel repair etc to further minimise costs - and who can blame them with the current state of the industry?
