Hi All

I have an SLK 230, am thinking about replacing the original alloys. They are not dented or damaged but the lacquer around the middle has started to peel, so don't look too nice. Hubby tells me they are 225/50 R16 5 stud can anyone point me in the right direction for finding new ones. Preferably local to Wiltshire. Tyres are in good nick so don't need to replace them, just wheels.

hi snow patrol, my favourite pop group, i have refurbed my merc wheels, it's quite easy and enjoyable, all you need is some wet & dry emery paper, some acrylic stopper paste to fill in the tiny marks, you then just mask over the tyres with a newspaper and masking tape and the valve stem. two light coats of grey celu. primer, and then two coats of gun metal grey metalic, not the ali. silver, that looks cheap, the darker grey looks superb. all cans available at the local car bar, £20, the lot. better than a £240 bill at a wheel restorer, you obviously remove the wheels one at a time and set up a suitable bench in your shed or garage, hope you find this useful. herbiemercman.

Have a look at www.lepsons.com

Had one of my 18" alloy refurb'ed after it got a small budge on the rim after being kerb'ed. 18/24 months back cost £50. They get very busy so I had to wait a week to get mine back. My local Ford delaler uses them

Refurb them yourself its easy, see attached, these 18" I did by hand and the 18" AMG's are being done at the moment, its hard work but I always feel Ive done them right and will always be happy having done them myself.
Ive used alloy repairs in the past and havent always been happy with the result.

Could be the way forward if you are DIY minded - and the wheels aren't too heavily damaged!
