Hi,

I have recently pruchased a very nice E220 and traded in my old 2007 E220 which was also er nice.

I have several issues with the car that Mercedes sales teams say are not issues, can anyone advise me please. My old car was better in many ways

Doors: Mercedes say
  • "The side window rubbers are not designed to wipe the glass"

Poor rubber wipe on the doors all 4:
qgzN8V1

5THYNdC

Rear windscreen 30 mins to demist

Fuel:
Mixed Road and motorway on ECO MAX 44-50mpg
Urban on ECO MAX 24-34mpg

There are a few other issues they say they are happy to investigate.
Maybe I was spoilt with the quality of my old merc?

I cannot see the photos there is a broken link.

The mpg seems pretty good to me my E350 Bluetec averages high 30’s but I have just returned from France where my recorded mpg was 51 plus.

I don’t think the side glass rubbers are designed to clear water but I could be wrong, I’m sure someone will put me right.

Hi I have a E250 and my rubbers dont clear the water a d I never really use them to do that.
My mpg is urban around 32mpg and motorway 20 plus miles hits around 55mpg. Mines also a blue efficiency.

MPG is low for a 220. The 250 does at least that and the 220's should be better. Combined mpg on my 250 is 43mpg over 20,000 miles.

On a motorway run at 70mph I would expect between 48 and 51mpg and at least 55mpg from a 220.

Side window rubbers have never been designed to clear windows, as to do so would significantly increase the risk of scratching the glass.

Door edge protectors are NOT designed to wipe water off the glass. They’re designed to prevent grit and dirt from entering the window regulator module. That’s true on MB and every other OEM.

30 minutes to demise rear windscreen sounds suss to me. My 2015 212 E220 Bluetec facelift had excellent demist performance. It also had an average combined mpg of 39.4, with no better than 44 ever achieved on a long motorway run.

From your pictures it looks like you have some serious misting-up, which might also explain the time taken to demist the rear window.

Assuming you haven't been indulging in Olympic-standard dogging, something is very wet inside the car...

Had the dealer (or anyone) just cleaned the seats/upholstery?

If not, I'd go feeling around your carpets for water ingress.

Make sure you keep the AirCon on at all times as that helps get rid of moisture and misting. Switching off the AirCon is not good for the system and can actually cause more interior damp problems. If the car has been sat for sometime over the winter before you bought it, perhaps it just needs running for a while with AirCon on and windows open on a nice sunny day.

The Olympic standard comment actually made me spit beer out my nose...

The fuel consumption seems pretty dire. I have a new E220 estate which has just reached 1000 miles. The trip computer is showing an overall 56mpg and I have seen 67mpg on a long motorway journey sticking to the speed limits (with some 50mph stretches). This is in Comfort not Eco setting and aircon on (I never turn it off). My initial impression is that it is 10 to 20% better than my previous w204 C220 estate.

I have just changed my C250 with a 7 speed box for a 9 month old c250 with a 9 speed box.My old 7 speeder I knew its economy very well including 2 runs down to Spain.I am off to Spain again this August and apart with a smaller fuel tank [it means buying now expensive french fuel as apposed to cheap Spanish fuel]as long as i keep above 80 mph it is going to return better economy.Having just completed 2, 100 mile motorway trips at 74 on cruise it is not very good in 9th gear [50.9 mpg]but on return in 7 Th gear [using manual mode it returns 60+] the engine seems happier revving a little bit higher.

I had 925 miles from 1 tank in my W213 E220d so you should be able to get to Spain without filling up in France (~850 miles from Dover to Barcelona) :)

I used to be able to get to Spain in the 7g car but my new 9g has a smaller tank for some reason 50L and it will prob get me about 600 miles but I will just give it a splash at my overnight stop.

Did you buy the E220d with 4matic if so that might account for the lower mpg. I’ve been out in a 2018 220d 4matic and the mpg was not what I expected, the car in question was a dealer car which we took out for a test drive as I recall urban was about 30+ and best was sub 40.

Thanks for the reply, the car is not a 4matic

Thanks to all for the replies, it would seem I expect too much from my new car, my older one was so amazing.

It might be to do with emissions my son’s 213 16 plate E220d gives 50+mpg on a run and I suspect the same engine in a 18/19 plate might be set-up differently due to reducing Nox emissions after the VW scandal.

I’d say you’re getting everything the new car should be providing...

Good question - cars will become gradually more economical as everything loosens up - to at least 20,000 miles.

Not really anymore, the tolerances are far better than they were years ago and there isn't the losening up effect there was in cars from the 70-s to 90's. You should be at optimal economy within a thousand miles with a modern car.
