I've had My Mercedes-Benz, for a month now ........Have washed and polished it at least 5 times ( see new car syndrome thread) ........ and love it to bit's ........... I've had many cars over the years, and a few trick ones ............ I loved the wifes C class when she had it, but it was'nt really mine .......... Things are going well, and no real teething troubles ...... even the MPG has shot up, from the dreaded 28-30 I got at zero milage to, today ...I got 44.2MPG being lead footed all day.

But what I really wish to share, and then ask the thread title question is this.

I was in a meeting with a few people today, and my car could be seen from the window ............ some praise on choice came my way, along with the "where's ya trilby" jibes (which I just dont get) ................ then some smart ass, said..why did'nt you get a BMW ?? ........ apart from already having an 18month old 5 series( for the wife), I said.....I wanted something a little more refined.

I went on to say (this is the line) ......... if you want a well screwed together, well engineered, car thats a pleasure to drive, and gives a full on driving experience, with plenty of driver involvement ........ Buy a BMW !!

If you want to be taken there .......... buy a Mercedes- Benz !!

Why? I mean where is the value in the jibe? [not referring to your quote at the end]

Amongst my friends, I naturally accept and I dare say enjoy the banter [don't tell them that] but when some I barely know opens up this rather old and pointless commentry, I find myself not fully appreciating it.

I've driven both [and others] and I suppose 'attack' [far too strong a word I know] is in and of itself a form of respect / flattery. In base terms, we attack what we fear or we see as a worthy challenge.

My response is to smile, wait a few moments and usually the other end of the unnecessary commentry realises it takes two to have a conversation and moves on.

Enjoy the car but be careful not to polish it away!

Good end quote by the way .... used sparingly, it'll kick it!

Safe Driving.
