I think that's been online for a while, it was one I spotted when we were talking about CL's a short while back.
Ive been past it a few times, I am surprised it hasn't sold yet.

At 175,000 mls and your asking if it's reliable .
I only buy high mileage cars because they have been reliable, an absolute joy to be in and be seen in, plus they should have been looked after for there high miles?
No brainer for me anyway........hmm the Missus be home tonight, must show her this, thanks for the heads up :D

I think this may end up catching me out in one way or another like @LostKiwi said there are 24 spark plugs, it was £100 for 6 plugs for a friends 335i and that's before you get into coil packs and the potential for one of those shocks to fail. It still looks like such an awesome car though I spoke to the guy and he actually paid £142k for it brand new!
Its so appealing, I dunno I left the guy my number as he has someone looking at it tonight so he will let me know tomorrow morning if its sold or not as of yet I am 50/50 about the car!
Coilpacks on these is £1000 each (there are 2 - one per side) and not interchangeable for testing purposes.

if you're not 100% about the car then don't bother, otherwise, something might happen and you'll say "Should have followed my instinct".

I've been looking at some older V8's, usually at the weekend with a glass of wine, then the day after I see some sense again.

I'm sceptic with anything mechanical, if nothing has gone wrong, does that mean it won't? Or would you factor that into buying and running and then fixing? At what point do these engines require a big overhaul?

So £2000 to replace the packs on these, can you source them reconditioned? Not sure why I'm asking, just interested.

The bigger the engine (generally) they longer they run without major work.

If you have an engine capable of 500hp most of its life it will be running around generating under 25% of that. It's hard to use all 500hp all of the time (or even much if the time). Since the engine is designed and engineered for its maximum output it's not going to be stressed in daily life.
If you have an engine that produces 100hp that will spend most of its life operating close to the top end of its design maximum so will wear out faster.

The same goes for the rest of the car too.

Apparently there's a guy in the US rebuilds them.

So something like the S600 V12 with 170k miles, would have just lived it's life ticking over nicely? Makes sense really, I've known a few small engine cars that have died well before 100k, probably from start/stop journeys and with being revved to an inch of it's life.

Pretty much. It's pretty hard to use 500hp all the time. For starters our roads are too bumpy plus you'd build an accumulation of points very rapidly!

If you only have (say) 50hp you'd be using all 50hp almost all the time.

My W213 used to sit for 3 hours at a time at 1,250 revs at 70mph - yes 48K miles in 18 months but no wear on anything.

Like @00slk I prefer well used for hours at a time to short usage low mileage

Is there anyone here that has owned one of these V12's or one of these CL's? I just curious about the reliability at 175k miles!

i had the V12 in the SL600 it just rushes along. affortless. and yet you can poodle about with as little effort, and the exhaust note does get going too. IF its been treated right the miles prob not a big issue but it must be said these things can empty yr wallet almost as fast as they move . if yr in a position for that not to hurt much ,go for it, if not common sense says no,but then common sense aint much fun .i had NO reliability issues with the bi turbo V12 at all but then mine had less than 40,000 miles. as said coil packs are a known issue and electrics/electronics are always a possible big headache, i doubt if you will experience much mechanical engine bother they seem fairly bullet proof if oils and filters changed at or less than recc intervals. is that biturbo ? if so at those miles thats a risk unless already done

I bought an Audi 80 1.9TDI estate with 189,000 miles for £300 - sold if after 10 months of use for £1,000 :D

Didn't have an MOT when I bought it so a bit of a risk - I spent ~£300 on 4 part worn tyres, a full service kit including cam belt and a new headlight (original cracked). Central locking never worked and it was a bit rough around the edges but it ran perfectly

Our 210 bought at 112k miles for £600.
Now 3 years on its 153k miles.
New radiator, a/c compressor, cps and a pair of wings (and tyres of course). About £1k in total (Inc tyres).
Still going strong and I can't find another for the same money (contemplated scrapping when radiator went).
Very cheap motoring and it's never let us down since the CPS was changed on day 1.

Mine, with half that power was used by the previous owner to commute down the M6 everday, clocked up around 18k miles in 18 months. Sadly, I not really doing anything like that.

I'd love it as a weekend car but as a daily the running and maintenance costs would be very high.
