I currently have an 2010 S212 with 170k miles on it and it’s just gone through its latest service and MOT. It a really comfy reliable well specced car however I have seen a S213 4 matic on a 18 plate with 33k miles. Would I be daft to change ( it’s not cheap ) . I know it probably wouldn’t make financial sense but that’s never the real reason to change cars.
I genuinely don’t know what to do!

If the 213 is a diesel then they can have issues. 33k miles in 4 years isn’t much - AdBlue system and nox sensors would be ringing alarm bells with me.
I’d recommend you stick

It’s a real dilemma changing from EU5 to EU6 diesel I personally wouldn’t do it as BC says those two known issues ADBLUE and Nox sensor problems are a deal breaker for me - added to the fact that the car can decide to shut-down with a 500 mile countdown if the ABLUE system throws a fault is ridiculous

I will add one caveat though - my son has just parted with a 16 plate W213 220d which he owned for 4 years and covered from 17 to 75k miles without a problem he did keep it under MB extended warranty though

I'm on my second S213, first was a 16 plate 220d and current one is an E400d Allterrain. Both have been a delight to drive, and definitely a step up from the S212 I had. Make sure you get a well spec'd one though.

Same as that. If urs is OK and u like driving it why invite a headache. Most newer benz are attach by bungie
to stealer .
With hindsight I wud have spent 3k on my w208 and stuck with it.
If costs not an issue 4 u go for it. I wud certainly shift my ml250 for a half decent 230,400g but a 1990 + version is prob more than my 2013 ml250! Prob due partly to simplicity and reliability,,issues created by benz changing bussiness model !!

Simple.

Is there anything going wrong with your car, where it’s going to need big repairs which, may financially annoy you? If not, and you have looked after it, there is no reason it won’t continue to serve you well. Keep the money aside for when you really need to buy another rather than pour it into a more expensive depreciating asset.

Thanks for the replies . Currently there nothing wrong with my car that you wouldn’t expect from a 13 year old car ,however it does have an unspecified oil weep from somewhere and it has cost me 1k in unexpected replacements recently ( starter motor , coil springs and rear subframe bushes) which has dented my confidence. Also it’s starting to get difficult out for a Euro 5 to get into cities both here and the continent which is something I would like to be able to do . It’s weird that my older (petrol) sports car gets through the emissions

I would not call it a mistaken by any means. If the new car ticks the boxes and you are comfortable with the buy then go for it.
My cars are old, I look after them with my heart. They are not worth much now to the market but to me they are worth everything.
Go with what makes you happy.

A 13 year old car will have things fail which are "routine" for 13 years old. Don't let it bash your confidence. its wear and tear. A new car wont have those issues of course - again if you dont want to be faced with replacing age related items then a newer car.

As above, changing your car is seldom really based purely (if at all) on cost. If you can afford it, drive the car you want. If you were looking to make a cost based decision, you'd probably be buying a Lexus.

Sorry I would go with the new one, just because you will have fun with all the new gadgets and gizmos. I tend to get bored of cars after about 10 years. I would definitely go with the petrol version, as stated above. Diesel is being regulated out of existence. As for your old car, a hidden oil leak can be expensive to fix, and makes the car unusable if it starts dropping oil.

But he didn't need the warranty other than peace of mind

A newer car would cost way more than any future repairs on your current vehicle in deprecation alone.

The car is a work tool to him coupled with the fact that he’s not mechanically minded so yes peace of mind coupled with MB providing a vehicle if his breaks and a repair conducted in a timely manner

Diesel is being regulated out of existence.
ICE cars altogether are being regulated out of existence.

Personally I wouldn’t buy a newish diesel. Too potentially troublesome and you’ll be paying a hefty premium because of London ULEZ right now… which looks likely to become road pricing within a few years and charge it anyway.

If I were buying a car right now I think I would find an older V6 or V8 and lump the petrol cost.
