Hi Guys,

First post and I'm afraid its a bit of a messy can of worms (or just a stupid question).

I'm currently entering into a very long term project and i will need running gear and electrics from a donor car.

The engine of choice is the AMG 320 engine. So would it be possible to take a C-Class manual as the donor car... then drop the AMG ecu and lump in at the end????

Does anyone know a likey place to get a rolled C-Class or SLK?

Any help would be really useful!

Thanks

Stu

I would assume from your description that you are looking for a supercharged V6 from an SLK32 or C32 to transplant into something else. If so, you have picked a tricky place to start. All these are automatics, and the engine management is tied in tightly to the gearbox management, and would be tricky, if not impossible to seperate. Apart from the fact that you would also need the EZS and probably the whole loom to actually make it run. The quickest solution would be bespoke management, such as Emerald. As far as sourcing an engine from a rolled car, I would not bother. They have often had the pick-up starved of oil and the bottom ends are usually toast. Rear end shunt is the safest bet. Front ends often pop the radiator, and the owner often leaves it ticking over while they get out to apologise, leading to serious overheating...

Very useful info. Thank you.

Now I'm going to tell you the car that this is all planned for (which has been brought in from the US).

one of the first Merc SL's ever made... a 1958 190 SL.

We are saving a car in need of full restoration and wish to make it into an AMG car.

I think that we are going to have to skip the maual idea and just keep with auto. The gearstick can be wired up to activate the trip tonic gears.

Its a big and exciting project... any comments or tips are more than welcome. our next task is to source a rear shunt AMG while the 190 SL is being taken back to bare metal.

Good luck finding parts.
Think you'll need to start by buying shares in all the breaker yards, (mostly oop north).
And any mercs they dont get, are striped and flogged on ebay piece by piece by our colonial cousins.

Sounds like good fun. Good luck
