This request is a real stab in the dark.

I'm looking for info on the AMG Hammer which was manufactured in the mid to late 80's.

At the time it was the fastest 4 door saloon in the world. Road and Track magazine tested one of these at Nardo in Italy and topped it out at 186mph....not bad for an old W124!

I have just purchased one as a non runner and I am looking for anybody who has any info on these cars.

My car was registered in 1986 and was originally sold by Strattons of Wilmslow. Its fitted with a 5.0 or 5.6 litre V8 with AMG's own Quad cam designed Heads.

What I would also like to know is how many of these Hammers were sold in the UK, as far as I can ascertain they only sold the one car over here as they were extremely expensive when new....cost $166,000 in the US

I have also found out that they made some Hammers based on the W124 coupe and made a total of 13, of which the majority went to the States.

Anybody out there know anything or anybody who may be able to help.....all info would be gladly received.

Thanks for the link......I have seen this one and it does provide some info. The problem I have with info on the Hammer is that AMG themselves do not know how many they made.....it appears that record keeping was not a strong point in the days before MB ownership.

The AMG owner forum are looking into this for me and they+AMG themselves seem to be fairly certain that they only made 13 Coupe's and they think less saloons.....but they can't say how many....very frustrating.

I have since found out that this car would be the car used by Road & Track magazine for a road test in 1986/87 when they went to the Nardo track in Italy and topped the car out at 186mph. I have contacted R&T and they are sending me a copy of the article. It will be interesting to see whether the car in the article is my actual car.

Any further info from you folks out there would be most appreciated...is there anybody out there who used to work for Strattons?????????

Many thanks

No help but....

I'm not going to be any help here but reading your posting I think I actually remember reading that article which included the Hammer.

There was a duplicate article printed in the UK by whatever magazine was or is Road & Tracks sister company. It was a bunch of super cars that people took down I think they were more or less all individually owned. Basically seeing which car was the fatest type test. There were some typical US Muscle cars plus some Italian exotica but the Hammer stood out. It was pretty unique.

Hope you get her back on the road. Good luck.
